ExPix LIKES!

ExPix are always in the thick of the action, so getting our hands on anything that makes our job easier, whether it’s the latest kit or time saving gadget is something to shout about. We don’t provide bog standard product reviews. This section is an honest endorsement of the gear and brands that the ExPix crew have used and which we’d highly recommend. Each item is tried and tested first hand by our team; if we don’t like it we won’t bother sharing it! Check out our Van Life and Photo Blog sections for more products.

Keypitts farm uad bike trails

Sat with nothing to do in North Devon, no wind for sailing, kiting or windsurfing, too far from a wakeboarding spot, your bike has a puncture etc etc etc? Then why not visit one of the many centres around the country offering a range of alternative activities to fill your empty days.

This is what ExPix did whilst at the Atlantic Games, supporting two of our team riders kitesurfers Ali Barrett and Hannah Whiteley.

With no wind in sight and kitesurfing off the agenda for the day, we hooked up with Will McKean, an accomplished kite buggier and native of North Devon who has been working during his summer break from uni at Keypitts Farm, alongside fellow student and former kitebuggier, now kitesurfer Freddie Oldfield.

At Keypitts Farm they offer plenty of activities including; horse riding, paint balling and quad biking together with some off road drives and tuition. It might not seem too extreme but that depends on who's driving; not mentioning any names, Miss Whiteley! But for those of you wanting something to do, its a great place to spend an afternoon tearing around fields, scrambling across streams and generally getting muddy and wet.

Whilst we were there we were shown around the place by owner, Fred Chugg, who has been developing a project to make the quads more Eco friendly. By removing the engines from original quad bikes and replacing them with electric motors and new gearing systems, Fred has managed to produce an all round 'greener' quad and it's amazing what they can do!

With enough torque to pull a land rover over 30 miles on one charge, two gear ratios, low and high and running cost of around 40p a charge, that's not bad in today's world of increasing petrol prices and Eco friendly attitudes.

So naturally we just had to test the quads to see for ourselves just what these babies can do and boy did we test them! We took them up and down some very nasty inclines, splashed though steams and mud and steamed across fields and they still survived.Well worth a go if you're ever in the area.

But more frightening than all of this was the off road vehicle trip in a Land Rover Discovery with kitesurfer and all round extreme sports enthusiast Hannah Whiteley as our chauffeur. Let's just say that the jury's out on whether Hannah planned it all or if everything they say about women drivers is true!

If you want to know more about these machines there's more information on the website or get yourself down to Keypitts farm and check out their facilities.
