SKA tricks for chicks weekend at Watergate bayStudent Kitesurfing Association, SKA, Tricks for Chicks at Watergate Bay

Just two weeks after their first event of the 2011 - 2012 season, the Student Kitesurfing Association, SKA, were out in force once more on the beaches, this time hosting the first of their ladies only clinics, 'Tricks for Chicks' held at Watergate Bay, Cornwall.

After receiving very positive feedback from the chicks clinics in 2010 and being inundated with requests from female students to hold more clinics, the SKA responded with this, the first of two ladies only clinics that the SKA will hold in the 2011 - 2012 academic year. Organised by the SKA and hosted by the Extreme Academy, 'Tricks for chicks' was all about helping female riders improve their kite surfing skills, learn new tricks and progress through the sport in a fun, friendly and relaxed environment.

30 or so female students from 6 universitiesincluding; Southampton Solent, Plymouth, Exeter, Bristol, Cardiff and Southampton Alumni had a whale of a time learning a variety of kitesurfing skills and techniques including beach safety, launching and landing a kite, water starts, pack downs, body dragging and turning in waves. And with an army of instructors and coaches including Flexifoil team rider Josh Coombes, Ozone team rider Sukie Robertson and instructors from the SKA committee and various universities, the SKA were able to offer students tuition at every level from complete novices to coaching for the more experienced riders.

Despite the harsh conditions and big waves, the event was a huge success and thanks to the loan of surf boards from the Extreme Academy, there was even something for the girls to do when the wind didn't play ball on the Sunday. Although to be honest, after the fantastic meal at Belushi's and the 'Halloween' themed party on Saturday night, we're amazed that any of the girls we up to doing anything! Oh and on that note, just to let you know that thanks to one of our 'informers'  it has been duley noted girls, that you tried to wait until the cameras were out of sight before you got up to any antics; not sure you were too successful on that one, check out the piccys and see for yourself!!!!!!!

As usually the event received tremendous support from annual sponsors, Flexifoil and Mystic and thanks to efforts from ourselves here at ExPix, who have now come on board to coordinate the sponsorship for the SKA, we were able to pull in sponsorship from ITZ Arm Wallets and Nalu Beads. There were also prizes from Kitegirl and KoW.

The next event for the SKA, the first of the National Tour Stops, is the Slider Jam which will be held in Parr Sands, Cornwall on 11 - 13th November.
