After a mad dash around the country a few phone calls to Tiree and Kent Murray arrived on our doorstep at around 9 pm The ferry was at 6am the next morning from Oban and which is a 5 hour drive (foot down) from Manchester........ it didn't leave much leeway. A quick meal, refuelling, cramming my kit into Murray's already full Citroen C2 and we were off. Helen was waiting for us and the BBC who were arriving by plane on Tiree the next day.

On Tiree the filming started with a hike to the ringing stone. Quite a walk carrying kit and barefoot as I was but this would / should provide some of the history aspect to the program and who had lived on Tiree in the past. The wind wasn't good so there was no time for kiting. instead an early night after all the travelling ready for the next day was in order.

Next morning was glorious but again not much sign of wind so interviews with Helen and exploring the Island were the order of the day. A beach BBQ in the evening saw a superb sunset disappear behind the Islands of the Outer Hebrides, and a Meteor flash.

Sea mist and drizzle brought with it a little wind for the third day and last day of the BBC's stay but the conditions for filming were difficult. Stood next to the camera man on Balephuil we watched as Helen made the most out of very light winds I tried to get kitted out but by the time I was ready the wind had dropped and that was the end of that. The BBC had to catch the plane and myself Murray and Helen went for some food in the cafe by the airport.

Thursday was our last day and I had to get back to the office before flying (by van ) down to Newquay for the Boardmasters Event. However when we woke up the sun was shinning and there was some wind. Grabbing the kite we shot off to Gott Bay while Helen and Muz set up. We managed around 1 1/2 hours of trying to get some decent footage before the wind finally died. Myself and Muz packed quickly before heading to the ferry to start the journey home. As we boarded the wind picked up again and we could see Helen and several others enjoying the return of the wind.

They say never work with animals and children but I have to say trying to find those perfect conditions for filming is probably much harder. Check out below the clips the used in the BBC coast programme-

Thanks to Jeni Shaw from the BBC for allowing us to use the edited clip as we think it looks better showing how it was used rather than the raw footage.
